Can Can by Paris Hilton is the epitome of a commercial fragrance in 2007 with a capital C and even two of these as one can see. To come into existence it seemingly had no choice but to copy left and right.
Image-wise by Baz Luhrmann -- fine. This influence was officially acknowledged as an homage paid to the movie and that song in particular. And sometimes a good perfume needs a little help from popular culture to make its mark more ostensibly........ Here is a video of Lady Marmalade as sung in Moulin Rouge.
The juice itself unfortunately offers few redeeming features if any. It is a gourmand fruity-floral with woody overtones. Scent-wise it is a cruder version of mingling florals fruits toffee and a sandalwood dry-down in the most predictable of manners. It is rather cloyingly sweet but is counterbalanced by some lighter citrusy notes. The fruity-floral bouquet is not completely unpleasant with its green edge but the less-than-good quality of the materials used mars any attempt to charm. There is a hint of a nutty nuance like peanut butter in the mix that makes it stand out a bit from the competition.
More generally it can be likened to other milky fruity-florals like except it leaves the shores of laid-back and girly and becomes a dumbed down version of that style of fragrance. It actually smells hazardous in as much as the quality of the ingredients used has been cheapened down and the composition seems intent on drilling a hole in your brain if you persist in smelling it from too up close. Do not attempt this at home.
We will not repeat the name of the perfumer here because we are pretty sure that he was probably tickled and tortured with that feather until he gave in to the constraints of mass-marketing.
Top notes of clementine flower cassis and nectarine; middle notes of wild orchid and orange blossom and bottom notes of soft musk amber and woods.
If you would like to win a sample of Can Can please leave a comment and we will draw two winners on Friday November 9th 2007.
It is not interesting to me either except in the sense that it is very symptomatic of fragrance development today. But if it makes people happy. I am not going to go against that except if someone showed that the materials used are really hazardous instead of smelling like they might be.
My daughter has talked about her friend having CAN CAN. I have smelled it and it is a very sexy and refreshing scent I am going to have to find this to give to my daughter and maybe myself too. That is how I got on this web site looking to see how to find it.
The Trashy Lingerie of fragrances. I actually like this perfume though it only goes certain places on me. It's extremely sweet smelling which is fine with me. I am a young woman and sweet perfumes appeal to me. I find myself moving away from it and toward lighter cleaner scents as the weather gets warmer. I'm sure I'll return to the bottle in the fall.
I usually don't go for celebrity scents because of obvious reasons but I must say that Can Can is an exception. I really love this one it's warm woody and sweet without being juvenile. Paris has done a great job in my opinion. I read somewhere that Can Can is very personal for her. I can tell since it's very well made and wearable to say the least!
